Bowie’s Independence Day Celebration Returns to Prince George’s Stadium on July 2nd
The City of Bowie is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a concert and fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day this year. The free event takes place on Monday, July 2 at Prince George’s Stadium The concert by legendary band the Fabulous Hubcaps begins at 7:30 p.m. and the fireworks are expected to shoot off at around 9:15 p.m. The fireworks show will include an exciting array of pyrotechnics that will be visible beyond the stadium.
The Fabulous Hubcaps have been together for over 40 years. They play cover music from many famous singers and bands of yesteryear, while dressing in outfits that the original performers would have worn. Attendees can expect songs by Tom Jones, Billy Joel, The Drifters, Benny Goodman, Cher, The Platters, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Tina Turner, Frank Sinatra, Little Richard, the Beach Boys and more during the performance.
Bowie’s Special Events Manager Matt Corley says of the Fabulous Hubcaps, “They mesmerize audiences with their high energy tributes to amazing artists. We’re thrilled to have them with us again this year.” The band was inducted into the Southern Legends Entertainment and Performing Arts Hall of Fame in 2005 and in 2013 the group was inducted into the Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame.
Prince George's Stadium is located at 4101 Crain Highway in Bowie. The parking lot opens at 5 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m. for those who wish to get a prime seat for the concert. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the stadium. Admission to Bowie’s Independence Day celebration and parking are both free. The Bowie Police Department is working on a traffic control plan for the roads near the stadium to keep traffic moving safely after the event. Details will be shared on social media and on the City website at www.cityofbowie.org/fireworks in advance of the event.
