Animal Welfare Committee

The Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) conducts regularly scheduled meetings on the third Thursday of the month at City Hall. The meetings are scheduled for 7 p.m. and are conducted in Room 201, City Manager’s Conference Room. The public is welcome to attend all meetings.

This committee was established in 2011 by Resolution R-10-11 for the following functions:

Section 1. Purpose and Functions

A. To advise the City Council on matters, within the City, related to animals, both domesticated and wild.

B. To make recommendations on long and short-term issues related to animal welfare.

C. To educate the citizens of Bowie on issues related to animal health, safety and welfare.

D. To discuss and research matters relating to the welfare of animals, both domestic and wild, as directed by the City Manager.

E. To prepare an annual report on the state of animal welfare in the City and present it to Council.

The Committee consists of five members. It is governed by the Rules and Regulations of City Committees as adopted and amended by the City Council.
