Arts Grants
Through the City of Bowie Arts Grants, the City supports public awareness of artistic enterprises, and seeks groups or individuals who will develop a project that will involve Bowie residents in an interactive arts experience. This might include:
- hands on arts experience
- workshops or public performances
- development and performance of a community band or choir
- group art opportunities, such as group lessons in an art form
Up to $4,000 is awarded to one or more individuals or groups through an application and selection process.
Winners of the 2011-12 Arts Grants Program
Annapolis Shakespeare Company
The monies requested are to help support a production of William Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors” at the Bowie Playhouse in August 2012. Despite the Annapolis name, over half of the high school students in the program are from Bowie. The Annapolis Shakespeare Company plans to provide the community with an opportunity to experience classic theater.The Annapolis Shakespeare Company is one of the resident companies at the Bowie Playhouse.
Bowie Community Theatre
The grant to Bowie Community Theatre will help the theatre company with costs associated with the production of their spring show “Arts.” BCT is the longest running company at the Bowie Playhouse and is an original resident company there. BCT has been providing quality theatre to Bowie audiences for nearly 50 years.
