Absentee Voting

Absentee Ballots and Emergency Voting Procedures

In accordance with Section 6-30 of the City Code, any qualified voter of the City, who may be unavoidably absent from the City or who is otherwise prevented from being present and personally voting at the polls,  may make application for an absentee voting ballot. 

The application may be obtained from the City Clerk's office or downloaded from this site.  The application must be presented no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day before the Election (Monday, 11/2/09).  It may be presented by mail or delivered in person by the voter or the applicant's authorized agent. 

When the application is received by mail, the Board shall issue the absentee voting ballot by return mail and when the application is presented in person by the voter or duly authorized agent, the Board shall issue the absentee voting ballot to the voter or duly authorized agent at the time of application. 

Persons receiving absentee ballots shall also be furnished official self-addressed, return envelopes for use in returning the marked ballots.  Only those ballots received in official return envelopes shall be counted and considered properly cast. 

All absentee ballots must be received by the time of closing of the polls at 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 3, 2009.
