Senior Citizen "Green" Housing Rehabilitation Program

Funded by the City of Bowie, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) -Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), and the OpenDoor Housing Fund through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (MD-DHCD).

  • Program Start Date: September 2009
  • Project Funding Level: Approximately $160,000 per year, plus $250,000 first year
  • Program Duration: 5 years (ODHF funding is for 1 year)

Program Elements:

  1. Replace old and poorly maintained HVAC systems
  2. Repair structural damage, leaks, and decay
  3. Eliminate insufficient and poorly installed insulation
  4. Correct leaky and poorly installed ducts
  5. Replace inefficient and/or leaky windows and doors
  6. Provide new roofs
  7. Renovate bathrooms to provide access for indigent and handicapped seniors
  8. Energy Star appliance requirement
  9. Solar energy technologies allowed
