Public Information Office

The Public Information Office is responsible for providing residents with current information on City events, services and policies. When the City government has information to share, it is published in the Bowie Spotlight, it is given to the local papers, and it is posted on City message boards, on this website and on the government channel (Verizon Channel 10/Comcast Channel 71). When the information has widespread appeal, it is also provided to Washington area television and radio stations, the Prince George’s Cable News Channel (CTV) and daily Washington, DC newspapers and other regional publications.

Bowie Spotlight

The Bowie Spotlight is mailed to all households in the City every other month. The Spotlight highlights upcoming events and information of importance to our residents. To contact the editor of the Bowie Spotlight call 301-809-3040 or email.

Due to the volume of events being held in the area, the Spotlight does not feature community events or accept advertisements for those events. Those wishing to publicize community events may contact the Bowie Community Media Corporation at 301-809-3057 or email to request a public service announcement be placed on the local cable channel (Comcast Channel 77/Verizon Channel 12). Other means of publicizing community events include local papers and community bulletin boards at City Hall and in local business establishments throughout the City.

Emergency Communications

In addition to the standard methods of communication discussed above, during emergencies, daily updates are posted to main page of this website and recorded messages are placed on the City telephone system. When there is important weather, traffic or emergency information to disseminate, text messages are also sent out to email accounts, cellular telephones and personal electronic devices, via the Bowie Alert system. Residents may also contact City Hall to request updates and assistance.
