Building Permits

Residents are required to obtain both a Prince George's County and a City of Bowie building permit for any major home improvements to their property. All work is to be inspected and approved by County and City inspectors.

Residents should first obtain a County permit by taking plans to the County permit office, which is located in Landover, Maryland. The telephone number for the County Permit Office is 301-883-5784.

Once the County permit is issued, the County permit and approved plans must be brought to Room 201 in Bowie City Hall. There, residents can make an application for a City permit. Projects requiring County and City permits include, but are not limited to: new homes, fences, additions, garage renovations, decks and porches.
