Unusual Occurrence Reports

Officers are required to complete an Unusual Occurrence Report when major incidents or crimes of an uncommon nature occur within the City of Bowie.

The purpose of the report is to apprise the command structure of the Department of serious incidents in a timely fashion. In general, reports will be completed for:

  • Any major crime that is unusual such as, but not limited to, homicides, 1st Degree assaults, multiple assaults in the 1st Degree, with firearms or any other weapons, 1st Degree sexual assaults; kidnapping, fire where substantial property damage or loss of life exists.
  • Any major arrest or large number of arrests.
  • Any fatal accident, or of such magnitude that it poses substantial hazard to the public’s safety or which impedes the free flow of traffic in the City.
  • Any incident resulting from racial conflicts.
  • Any incident involving groups of individuals where a potential for violent confrontation exists, i.e., labor disputes, demonstrations, street gang mobilization.
  • Any firearms discharge by or at police.
  • Assaults on a police officer resulting in serious bodily injury.
  • Any reported incident or injury involving a police officer or other police employee or ranking city official elected or appointed occurring or off duty, in or out of the City.
  • Any serious allegations of misconduct directed against a police employee, or any arrest of a police employee occurring on or off duty, in or out of the City.
  • Any disturbance or unrest within or in the vicinity of the high schools in the City.
  • Any disturbance or unrest within or in the vicinity of the high schools in the City.
  • Fleet vehicle accidents
  • Loss of or damage to department equipment or employees’ property resulting in a claim

Beginning in September 2008, the reports will be posted on this website as soon as possible after they are filed.
