Field Usage Without A Permit - Neighborhood Pickup Games

City ordinance mandates permit issuance for use of City of Bowie athletic fields.  It is recognized that there is interest from the Community to offer fields for unorganized neighborhood play.

All City fields are inspected daily for playability.  All users (with or without a permit) must check the field status line prior to practicing or playing on a City of Bowie athletic field.

Daily Field Status

The following fields are currently available without a permit for non-league, unorganized pickup, neighborhood games.  This list may change seasonally to allow for field resting and repairs.  You must check this list and the field status line prior to visiting the field and scheduling a pickup game.

If a permitted organized team, program, or league shows up while your pickup game is in progress, the non-permitted user group must leave the playing field.  If this occurs, you may contact a City Park Ranger at 240-508-3881 to confirm permit issuance.  Non-permitted users must vacate field during park maintenance, including grass cutting and infield maintenance.

This non-permitted usage is intended for neighborhood pickup games and not league scrimmages or official games.  Violators are subject to fine and/or criminal charges.

Field Usage Without A Permit - Less than 5 Participants, Neighborhood practice session on synthetic turf

The Murtagh 1 synthetic turf field at Allen Pond Park will be available for non-league, unorganized, small group neighborhood practice sessions (less than 5 participants) on a trial basis.  Please refer to the "open usage schedule" at the bottom of this section.

This schedule will change regularly as this field is in high demand, and rental rates are at a premium.  You must check this site and review the posted schedule before visiting the field.

During periods of inclement weather, it is likely that organized league usage will relocate from grass fields to the synthetic turf field, without updates to this schedule.  The City retains full discretion with canceling "unpermitted usage" to accommodate league sanctioned games and activities in an effort to preserve the integrity and quality of the City's grass fields.

If a permitted organized team, program, or league shows up while your individual or small group training practice is in progress, the non-permitted user group must leave the playing field.  If this occurs, you may contact a City Park Ranger at 240-508-3881 to confirm permit issuance.

Training sessions will be allowed half-field usage, with half-field dedicated to soccer and half-field dedicated to lacrosse.

Murtagh 1 Synthetic Turf Rules

This usage is intended for individual or very small group practice sessions. Examples includes individual shooting sessions on goal.   It is not intended for unorganized pickup games, league scrimmages, official games, or similar usage.   Violators are subject to fine and/or criminal charges.
