Bowie, Maryland is a city of 55,896 (2009 estimate) residents located in Prince George's County, and convenient to Washington, DC, Annapolis and Baltimore.

The City consists of approximately 18 square miles. There are over 1,100 acres set aside as parks or as preserved open space, including over 22 miles of paths and trails and 75 ball fields.

Bowie has a nonpartisan City government directed by a mayor and six councilmembers. The City Council meets in weekly sessions that are open to the public.

City Hall offices are open for business Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. The reception desk at City Hall is staffed Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. City Hall is closed on Sundays.The following departments have offices at City Hall:

Recycling buckets and new resident packets may be picked up at the reception desk. Payment of water bills may be done in the Finance Department or on this websie. Pet licenses and picnic permits may also be obtained at City Hall. Additionally Bowie Youth & Family Services provides counseling by appointment at City Hall.

COMCAST also maintains an office at City Hall. Hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed for lunch between 1 and 2 p.m.) and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Public Works Department

The Public Works Department is located at 16500 Annapolis Road. The Department is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To report problems or emergencies after hours, call 301-262-6200.
