How Will the Proposed Police Department Affect My Taxes?

A police department model has been prepared by City staff which provides a department with 57 sworn officers and 9 civilian employees. It is expected to have operating costs of approximately $7.5 million a year when it is fully staffed, which is expected to take up to four years.

The increase will be phased in over the course of four years as the department is established. The net tax effect of paying for a fully functioning police department is an increase of $46 per $100,000 of assessed value of a home.

Property owners may view the chart below to determine the approximate increase to their property taxes or use the Tax Calculator Tool to calculate the projected increase based on the assessed value of their home.
