The City of Bowie is accepting applications for two different scholarships, Excellence in Education and Arts Scholarships, for eligible high school students. The deadline for both scholarships is 5 p.m. Friday, March 12.
The scholarship applications work differently. For the Excellence in Education Scholarship, schools are asked to nominate high school seniors who are City of Bowie residents and who meet the eligibility criteria. Individual students may apply for the Arts Scholarship.
To apply for the Arts Scholarship, students must be residents of the City of Bowie, have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average and have applied to college for a major in a visual or performing art field. Applications are available in the guidance offices of high schools or can be downloaded from the city’s webpage www.cityofbowie.org. Students may also obtain the application at City Hall in the Department of Community Services. Contact Annette Esterheld, Arts Specialist, at 301-575-5601 or aesterheld@cityofbowie.org for additional information.
To apply for the Excellence in Education Scholarship, students must live within the corporate limits of the City of Bowie and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5. Students who meet these requirements should contact the guidance counselors at their school to express an interest in being considered for nomination. The schools then will provide applications for the students that it nominates for this scholarship. Contact Leni Stern, Education Committee Liaison, at 301-809-3068 or lstern@cityofbowie.org.
