Textile Art Displayed at City Hall Art Gallery in March

The tapestries of textile artist Sharon Keyser-Jackson are featured in the March City Hall Art Gallery. As a child, Keyser-Jackson learned to sew from her great grandmother and discovered a passion for fabric. She sewed through high school, but in college she majored in Accounting, became a Certified Public Accountant, and put aside her love of fabrics for awhile.
She still as she says “felt the fire for her craft in her soul.” That fire and passion led her to create her own company SKC Creations in January 2005. By May 2006 she was able to leave the corporate work behind and make her dream come true as a textile artist.

She began with decorative pillows, moved to throws that complemented the pillows and with leftover fabric started making textile wall art.  In 2009 she branched out to wearable textile art and in addition now has established two handbag lines. She is now found at many art exhibits and craft festivals throughout the Metro Washington, D.C., area, is a past officer of the Prince George’s Artist’s Association and a member of the Women’s Caucus for Art of Greater Washington.

The City Hall Gallery is located in the hallways of City Hall, 2614 Kenhill Drive, and is open to the public City Hall hours from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
