City of Bowie Education Grants Available
Grants Workshop, June 16th

The City of Bowie has always supported education and students in many ways. Making funds available for Grants for Education is one of the ways in which they accomplish this.

Grants of up to $1,000 each, for up to a total of $15,000, are available for programs that enrich the learning opportunities of students attending eligible schools* located in Bowie. Grants give teachers, PTA/PTO (or other parent organizations), or individuals, the opportunity to apply for funding to fully or partially cover the costs of projects planned to provide enhancement to students education. Although this year’s deadline for applications is not until October 14, 2010, this information is being provided now, so that educators may consider the possibilities as they plan for the 201-2011 school year, and so that while considering the possibility of applying they may attend the Grants Workshop in June.

The Education Committee strongly encourages anyone who is considering submitting an application for a grant to attend the Grants Workshop on Wednesday, June 16th, at 7 pm, at Bowie City Hall (2614 Kenhill Drive). Participants will be provided with information to help them gain an understanding of the grant process, in general, during the general session with speaker, Jusse Buggs, the City’s Grants Administrator, who has much experience in presenting grant application information. In addition, there will be breakout sessions for each of three City grants, Arts, Community Outreach and Education. During these sessions information about the application, criteria, eligibility, how to best provide the required information and how projects are selected to receive grants, for each of these grants, will be provided. Both the general session and the breakouts will allow an opportunity for Q & A.

Applications are available on the City web site at www.cityofbowie.org. For more information please contact Leni Stern, Education Committee Liaison at lstern@cityofbowie.org or 301-809-3068.
