The beautiful quilts made by members of the Southern Comforters Quilt Group form the City Hall Gallery’s exhibit for the month of February. The quilt group offers the opportunity for its members to quilt, to enter show quilts, to make quilts for charity and the group serves as a social gathering for its approximately 100 members.
Quilting has evolved through the years from the traditional bed quilts that were hand pieced and stitched to the contemporary quilts with intricate machine cutting and embellishment. To learn more about the Southern Comforters Quilt group, log onto their website.
The City Hall Gallery is located in the hallways of City Hall, 2614 Kenhill Drive, and is open to the public City Hall hours from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.on Saturdays. Besides the City Hall Gallery, the City of Bowie provides three other galleries at City Hall to showcase the work of local artists.
For more information or to find out how to exhibit, call Annette Esterheld, Arts Specialist, at 301-575-5601 or e-mail aesterheld@cityofbowie.org.
