With Speed Camera Enforcement on Route 450 and Route 197
On January 17th, the Bowie Police Department will continue to expand its Safe Speed Program with additional speed cameras operating on Route 450 in the vicinity of Bowie High School and Route 197 in the vicinity of Rockledge Elementary. The purpose of the Safe Speed Program is to change the behavior of drivers in the City of Bowie and gain compliance with existing speed limits. The Safe Speed Program is another component of the Bowie Police Department’s overall traffic safety strategy.
The cameras in Bowie will be used exclusively in marked school zones between the hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Safe Speed Program areas will be clearly delineated by signage. The cameras will be triggered for cars going 12 MPH over the posted speed limit. Citations will be issued to the owner of the vehicle. The citation carries a fine of $40 and does not carry points or effect the vehicle owner’s driving record. The cameras will be operational on January 17th. Citations will be issued starting on January 17th. No warnings will be issued.
For questions or more information about this program, please contact the Bowie Police Department at 301-575-2480 or visit the Police Department page on the City website.
