MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

Bowie, MDMay 11, 2011 - Excitement is building for the City of Bowie’s Memorial Day Parade that will take place during Memorial Day weekend, on Saturday, May 28th beginning at 11:00 AM.

The City dedicates this parade to all the brave Americans who have proudly served their country.  The streets will be filled with music as the City proudly rallies around the red, white, and blue.

Parade entries include the U.S Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, Bowie High School Marching Band, Eleanor Roosevelt High School Pep Band, Panquility Steel Drum Band, Prince George’s County Police Bagpipe Band, veterans groups, floats, antique cars, dance groups, beauty queens, marching units, the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department Company and more.

The parade, held rain or shine, will begin at the Bowie High School Annex on Belair Drive.  The parade will turn right onto Belair Drive and continue to Sussex Lane.  Once Sussex Lane is reached, the parade will turn right and continue to Stonybrook Drive and make another right.  The parade will travel past the Bowie Community Center and turn left onto Sage Lane, finishing in the Market Place Shopping Center parking lot.

Food and drink concessions will be available at Acorn Hill Park and Sussex Lane Park for the convenience of those watching the parade.  Sussex Lane Park, as well as Acorn Hill Park, are wonderful locations to view the parade!  Public restrooms will be located at both parks for the convenience of parade watchers.

Because of the parade, the following streets will be blocked: Belair Drive from the Bowie High School Annex to Route 450; Sussex Lane; Stonybrook Drive from Sussex Lane to Sage Lane; and Sage Lane.

Following the parade, the celebration for the 50th Anniversary of Belair at Bowie continues. Join us on the lawn at Sussex Lane, the site of Levitt’s Belair-at-Bowie model homes, for a performance by the Back Pages Band. The band will perform Beatles’ music from the sixties. There will also be commentary on important dates on the history of Levitt Bowie and the Beatles’ era.
