SUBJECT: Repair of Motor from Well #5 R-65-08
DATE: September 11, 2008
On March 3, 2008, Council approved R-15-08 accepting a bid for the removal, inspection and replacement of the pump assembly on well #5 located on Foxhill Lane. As a result of this inspection, it was found that the submersible motor was defective. The defective pump and motor were replaced, however repairs are needed on the defective equipment in order to keep as a spare.
The defective motor is of a specialized nature that the pump and motor must stay as a single unit and is supplied only by Flowserve Corporation through the local vendor, A. C. Schultes of Maryland, Inc. A. C. Schultes has provided a price quote of $17,500 to make the necessary repairs.
The Pubic Works Department recommends that Council waive bidding requirements
for good cause shown, as allowed by Section 61(b) of the City Charter, to allow
for A. C. Schultes of Maryland, Inc. to make repairs to the motor from well
#5 in the amount of $17,500.
