MEMORANDUM
TO: City Council

SUBJECT: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency Grant (SAMHSA)
DATE: December 2, 2009
The attached information outlines the five-year federal grant for Drug Free Communities. The City is eligible to compete for annual federal support of up to $125,000. Although the application is not due until March 2010, staff is seeking Council’s endorsement of this application at this time. We believe this is an appropriate and useful grant program for our community.
With your support, staff will prepare the application over the next three months. The Director of the Youth Services Bureau will present an overview of the SAMHSA Grant and respond to any Council questions.
