Subject: Ordinance O-1-10 – Amending the Budget for the Fiscal Year
Beginning July 1, 2009, and Ending June 30, 2010

On September 21, 2009, the City of Bowie was awarded a $500,000 reimbursable federal grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) for the purpose of purchasing computer hardware and software, a paperless field reporting system, upgrades to wireless In-Car camera systems (ICOP), E-citation ticketing equipment, tasers with cameras and other equipment to support police services. The various equipment and technological improvements will increase the emergency preparedness capabilities of the Bowie Police Department.
Ordinance O-1-10 amends the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009, and ending June 30, 2010, to acknowledge the award of the grant and provide a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $500,000, to fund the purchase of specialized police equipment, including computer hardware and software, necessary to support the operations of the Bowie Police Department.
Council’s approval of Ordinance O-1-10 amending the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009, and ending June 30, 2010, to provide a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $500,000, is requested.
