REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2010
CALL MEETING TO ORDER:
The Regular Meeting of the Bowie City Council was held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Mayor Robinson called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.
QUORUM:
In attendance were Mayor Robinson, Councilmembers Brady, Marcos, Polangin, Trouth, Turner and Valentino-Smith; City Manager Deutsch, Assistant City Manager Fitzwater, City Attorney Robert Levan, City Clerk Fleming, Members of the Staff, the Press and the Public.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG:
The City Council led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
CITIZEN PARTICIPATION:
Mr. Pete Mellits, 2906 Blueberry Lane, spoke about issues he would like to see addressed during the budget process as well as snow removal issues during the recent storm.
CITY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES:
Councilmember Valentino-Smith moved to appoint Ms. Camille Henley as a member of the Education Committee. Mayor Pro Tem Marcos seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
Mayor Robinson swore Ms. Henley into office in accordance with Sec. 92A of the City Charter.
COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Mayor Robinson congratulated City Manager Deutsch and the Public Works Department staff for their hard work in clearing the nearly 35 inches of snow that fell during the most recent snow storms from 185 miles of City streets.
CONSENT AGENDA:
Mayor Pro Tem Marcos moved the approval of Consent Agenda Item A: Approval of Minutes of February 1, 2010 Council Meeting. Councilmember Turner seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS:
Legislative Update - Councilmember Turner announced that he will recuse himself from participating in discussion of this matter.
City Lobbyist Leonard Lucchi summarized his report dated February 11, 2010, a copy of which is attached. He reported on the State Budget, MNCPPC Study Task Force, Bowie Health Center, State Ethics Review, Cooperative Agreements, Parking Enforcement and Bond Bills.
Since there were no persons signed up to speak, Mayor Robinson declared the public hearing to have been held.
ADJOURNMENT:
Mayor Pro Tem Turner moved to adjourn the City Council meeting into a worksession. Councilman Brady seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:27 p.m.
