MEMORANDUM
To: City Council
From: David J. Deutsch, City Manager
Subject: Ordinance O-2-10 – Amending the Budget for the Fiscal Year Beginning July 1, 2009, and ending June 30, 2010
Date: February 25, 2010
On November 17, 2009, the City of Bowie was awarded a $464,000 reimbursable federal grant from the United States Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for the purpose of developing strategies to reduce energy consumption at City facilities. Nine City projects were identified and approved for funding under this grant. Due to the timing of the award, no funds were appropriated for any of the projects in the FY10 Budget. Two of the approved projects totaling $164,800 (1) the development of an energy efficiency and conservation strategy for the City and, (2) the purchase of single stream recycling containers, will be completed during this fiscal year and will require a supplemental appropriation from the FY10 Budget. Funding for the remaining projects will be included in the FY11 Budget.
Ordinance O-2-10 amends the Budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009, and ending June 30, 2010, to acknowledge receipt of the grant, and to appropriate the $164,800 necessary to complete the two projects during the current fiscal year.
Council’s approval of Ordinance O-2-10 amending the Budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009, and ending June 30, 2010, to provide a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $164,800 is requested.
