Status Report
1. Bond Bills
Senator Peters has sponsored a number of bond bills. Each of them, except for SB-887, is for $50,000 and requires matching funds from the recipient. The bills and the recipient organizations are listed below:
SB-283 Knights of St. John Hall
SB-454 South Bowie Boys and Girls Club Concession Stand
SB-519 Olde Mill Community and Teaching Center
SB-832 Lincoln Vista Neighborhood Park Recreation Building
SB-833 Shabach Adult Day Care and Senior Center
SB-834 Whitemarsh Turf Field
SB-887 Kappa Alpha Psi Playground Equipment
SB-889 Bowie Police Dispatch Center
The Delegates have sponsored a bill, HB-469, to provide $50,000 to the Board of Directors of the Bowie Boys and Girls Club (BBGC) for the “Bowie Indoor Sports Plex”. (HB-469 has not yet been cross-filed in the Senate.) BBGC has apparently resurrected its interest in constructing an indoor facility at Jericho Park. Staff expects to meet with BBGC staff in a couple of weeks.
2. City Marketing Team to Attend ICSC Mid Atlantic Trade Show
A team consisting of Joe Meinert, Director of Planning and Economic Development, John Henry King, Economic Development Director, and Councilmember James Marcos, the EDC Council Liaison, will represent the City at the February 18 and 19, 2009 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) 2009 Mid Atlantic Idea Exchange, a major trade show in the retail segment. Building on past year’s successes, the team will attend the program sessions on day one and will work the City’s exhibit booth on day two. The City coordinates a joint exhibit space shared by the City of Bowie, the City of Laurel, and the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). Copies of two of the handouts the Bowie team uses are in today’s package.
