Status Report

1. Vehicles

The Public Works Department has received and analyzed the State of Maryland vehicle bid results.  Below is a tabulation of the bids for the vehicles scheduled for replacement/purchase:

UNIT  DIVISION  COST  SUPPLIER
400   Utilities   $30,829     Criswell Chevrolet
NEW
Cruisers
Police Department  2 @ $18,996 = $37,992 Criswell Chevrolet

These vehicles are scheduled for purchase in FY10 and are within budget.  The City will not accept delivery of the vehicles prior to July 1, 2009.

As provided by Section 62 of the City Charter, this will serve as the required seven (7) day notice of intent to issue a purchase order to Criswell Chevrolet for a total amount of $68,821.

2. Appeal of Bowie Advisory Planning Board Decision (Variance Appeal BV-1-09)

The City has received a letter from Mr. Scott Perry, the applicant in Variance Appeal BV-1-09, appealing the Bowie Advisory Planning Board's denial of a 2.1% lot coverage variance to validate construction of a driveway expansion at his residence, located at 12011 Terra Lane.  An appeal hearing before City Council will be scheduled as soon as staff can prepare a transcript of the May 12, 2009 Bowie Advisory Planning Board hearing.

3.  Bond Rating Agency Visits

Staff made credit presentations this week to Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s in anticipation of receiving a bond rating prior to the bond sale next month. Mayor Robinson welcomed both sets of visitors.  The City’s Financial Advisor, Davenport & Company, prepared the document enclosed in your package with the assistance of City staff.  A bus tour of the City was also provided to the Wall Street advisors, so that they could have as full an understanding of our City as possible.  The itinerary brochure for the bus tour is also in your package.

4.  DTV Transition - June 12th

For those still needing assistance preparing for the digital transition, FCC representatives will be attending Bowiefest (booth #93 green) on Saturday, June 6th  from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, June 10th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., members of the City’s Information Technology Committee and a representative from the FCC will be at City Hall to answer any last minute questions and to demonstrate how to connect the new digital converter boxes.

For those who cannot attend either of these events, a display has been set up at the Bowie Senior Center and residents can stop by at their convenience for a demonstration.  For more information, please contact Denise Mahoney at 301-809-3031 or dmahoney@cityofbowie.org.
