The attached notice has been sent to residents living in proximity to the new City Hall site inviting them to a pre-construction meeting on Tuesday, July 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at City Hall.  Representatives from City staff, Manekin Construction, Arcadis, and Grimm + Parker will be in attendance to describe the construction process for residents and to answer any questions residents may have regarding this project.

2.  BGE Tree Trimming Along Route 197 Adjacent to Long Ridge

BGE is proposing to trim and cut trees along Route 197 adjacent to the Long Ridge community as part of their Bowie Electric Reliability Action Plan.  Attached is a letter that was mailed to the Long Ridge community outlining what will be done along Route 197 regarding this trimming and cutting.  Entrance areas into the Long Ridge community and areas where electric lines are in proximity to Route 197 will be most impacted by this trimming and cutting.  The Department of Natural Resources has reviewed this proposed cutting and has issued a permit to BGE to do this work.  The City’s Community Forester and Assistant City Manager have also walked this area with BGE and reviewed the proposed work.

3.  Preliminary Official Statement

Enclosed please find the Preliminary Official Statement
pertaining to the Bond issuance by the City.  The bond sale is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7th at 11:00 a.m.  The City will receive electronic results shortly thereafter.

4.  Election 2009

As of today, the following have filed for re-election:  Mayor Robinson – Mayor; Councilmember Brady – At-Large; Councilmember Trouth – District 4; Councilmember Marcos – District 1; Councilmember Turner – District 3; Councilmember Polangin – District 2.

5.  School System Budget

The School System has provided further clarification on a few of the items included in the FY 2010 Operating Budget which was adopted last week.  All 78 of the Reading Recovery teachers are funded in the Budget.  Some are being paid out of general funds and others out of special education stimulus funds.   Assistant Principals will be removed from elementary schools with less than 350 students.  We have been told that at this point, positions at Yorktown, Tulip Grove and Heather Hills Elementary Schools would be affected.  The Parent Liaison program is being revamped.  Information on how the changes will affect Bowie area schools is not yet available.  The second round of boundary changes will be announced this fall.  Again, details about the proposal are not yet available, but hearings will be scheduled in each of the five school districts before the changes are adopted.
