Status Report
1. Population and Housing Estimates, New Residential Construction Handouts
Attached for Council's review and information are two (2) popular handouts prepared annually by the Department of Planning and Economic Development. The Population and Housing Estimates document is prepared using permit and annexation data. The current population estimate for the City as of January 1, 2010 is 55,958 people. The number of housing units is estimated to be 20,734 units. The US Census Bureau, through the latest American Community Survey, estimates 58,000 people and 21,000 households in the City. The New Housing Construction handout tracks building permit activity from 1991 to the present. Note that the number of new residential permits issued by the City (23) is one less than last year's total (24) and is the lowest annual figure since record keeping began in 1991.
