Weekly Status Report - 4/22/09
MEMORANDUM
TO: City Council
FROM: David J. Deutsch, City Manager
SUBJECT: Status Report
DATE: April 22, 2009
1. CB-16-2010 Municipal Land Use Authority
On Wednesday, April 21st, the Prince George's County Council's Planning, Zoning and Economic Development (PZED) Committee voted CB-16-2010 out of committee with a FAVORABLE recommendation, by a vote of 3-2 (Dean, Dernoga and Olson in favor; Bland and Knotts against). The bill would codify State enabling provisions allowing the governing body of a municipal corporation to exercise certain powers of the District Council upon delegation, including alternative compliance from land-scaping requirements, certification, revocation and revision of nonconforming uses, and minor changes to approved special exceptions. Staff from Bowie and Greenbelt spoke in support of the legislation while M-NCPPC and the Planning Board opposed it. Council Member Turner (cosponsor of the bill) and Council Member Harrison (who spoke against the bill) also attended the meeting but did not vote, as they are not assigned to PZED.
2. Stream Team Cleanup Results
The Stream Team event last weekend was a huge success, with 110 adults and 138 youth participating. A substantial amount of trash, recycling and bulk items was removed from the five (5) locations targeted this year. Staff is now compiling the total volume collected, using reports generated by the Stream Team leaders. We will report these statistics to you shortly.
