SUBJECT: Preliminary General Plan
for Prince George's County

Mr. Tom Tyson of the M-NCPPC Countywide Planning Division will attend the March 4th City Council meeting to provide an overview of the proposed Preliminary General Plan. A joint public hearing of the County Planning Board and County Council will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the County Administration Building in Upper Marlboro. Copies of the Preliminary General Plan were provided to you in last week's package. A City public hearing has been scheduled for March 18, 2002.

Attached for your information is a copy of the City's position statement regarding Commission 2000. Also included is a letter submitted into the record at the General Plan public forum held last May. Some of the major considerations for the proposed update include revising transportation policies, incorporation of wildlife policies, and revising standards for public facilities.

We direct your attention to the Abstract inside the front cover and the Executive Summary found on pages 1-6 of the Preliminary General Plan. The Executive Summary concisely highlights the elements of the Plan and provides a thorough description of each major policy area covered by the Plan.
