SUBJECT: Potential Sites for New Library

Based on Council comments at its August 4th meeting, the Planning Department has compiled a list of additional potential sites that may be suitable and warrant further investigation. In reviewing the Prince George’s County Zoning Ordinance, a library is considered a “Public Use” and is permitted by right in all zoning districts of the 13 sites listed below.

Staff believes the following factors should be considered in determining potential sites for a new public library:

· Easy accessibility;

· Preferably located on a main thoroughfare;

· Located in a neighborhood center or shopping area;

· Sufficient parking; and,

· Site is large enough to accommodate future expansion of the facility.


The sites listed below are for Council review and discussion.

The following potential library sites have been split into two categories, based on geographic location: Bowie Town Center area; and, Church Road Corridor.

Bowie Town Center Area
1. Mitchellville Road Soccer Fields
Zoning Category: R-R (Rural Residential)

2. Northview Drive/Health Center Drive
