SUBJECT: Bowie and Vicinity Preliminary Master Plan

Attached for Council’s information is a copy of the draft Preliminary Master Plan for Bowie and Vicinity. Today, the Prince George’s County Planning Board granted permission for MNCPPC staff to print the Preliminary Plan. Copies will be available for public distribution in the next 2-3 weeks.

Next Monday’s Council agenda begins the City’s public input process regarding the Master Plan. The schedule calls for next Monday’s meeting to be an early opportunity for the public to address City Council on any matters within the purview of the Master Plan. Staff sent out a large mailing of over 600 notices to advertise the City’s review schedule. In addition, the latest edition of the City newsletter identified the numerous opportunities for public input, as summarized below:

Council/Bowie Advisory Planning Board Worksession #1: Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 8:00 p.m.
Council/Bowie Advisory Planning Board Worksession #2: Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 8:00 p.m
City Council Worksession: Monday, April 18, 2005 at 8:00 p.m.
Bowie Advisory Planning Board Public Hearing: Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
City Council Public Hearing #2: Monday, May 2, 2005 at 8:00 p.m.
District Council/County Planning Board Joint Public Hearing at CAB in Upper Marlboro
Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
