Subject: Schematic Design Submittal City Hall Project
Date: April 2, 2008
Attached please find the Schematic Design Submittal from Grimm + Parker for
the City Hall Project. This submittal was due on March 27th and was submitted
on time. The City’s Project Management Team and Project Management
firm, Arcadis, are scheduled to meet and finalize our collective comments
on April 15th. These will be submitted to Grimm + Parker by April 16th for
review and response. According to the Project Management Schedule, the Schematic
Design is scheduled to be finalized on April 28th.
Arcadis has provided the following guidance to the City as to what to look for at the Schematic Design stage of the development process as follows:
1. Focus on shared spaces used by all or several departments: examples are, Exercise Room, Conference Rooms, Lunch Room, Storage, etc.
2. Focus on adjacencies of spaces for intended uses.
3. Do space needs meet program requirements.
4. Public's interaction and flow on site and in the building.
5. Site layout, parking, loading dock access and Police access.
6. Exterior and interior aesthetics of the building.
7. HVAC written description. Should comment on things you have experienced if the system is listed, or lessons learned.
Arcadis has advised that we should not focus at this juncture on:
1. Location of doors inside the building or exact layouts of furniture & equipment. This will come during the Design Development phase.
2. Structural written description will become detailed drawings during Design Development.
At the City Council meeting on April 7th, Council should present any issues that you would like presented to Grimm + Parker in the City’s response that will be finalized on April 15th and submitted on April 16th.
