P R O C L A M A T I O N
OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOWIE, MARYLAND HONORING FLAG DAY BY THE CITY OF BOWIE AND THE BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS, LODGE #2309
WHEREAS, Flag Day, June 14, recognizes the anniversary of the day in 1777 when the Continental Congress adopted the first official United States flag; and
WHEREAS, the United States Flag is the highest symbol of our nation, and throughout history Americans have willingly sacrificed their fortunes and their lives to protect and preserve the flag; and
WHEREAS, over time, our proud symbol has affectionately been named "Old Glory", "The Star- Spangled Banner", "The Stars and Stripes", and "The Red White and Blue"; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, June 15, 2008, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #2309, will host the City of Bowie Annual Flag Day Ceremony and "Pause for the Pledge"; and
WHEREAS, the Bowie Elk's Lodge #2309 will be joined by the Bay Winds Concert Band, and other community organizations in honoring of our nation's flag.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Council of the City of Bowie, Maryland is very proud to salute our United States Flag and expresses its appreciation to all those who help to honor our nation's finest symbol.
