Status Report
1.
Monday’s Worksession
The Police Department implementation update will be an oral presentation
by the Police Chief.
2. Rural Tier SMA and County Council Pending Legislation
On Monday evening, October 16th, the County Planning Commission held a
second public hearing on the Rural Tier SMA. This is a Sectional Map
Amendment that proposes to downzone all land in the Rural Tier that is
currently zoned O-S (Open Space) to the proposed A-O-S zone. The SMA
as proposed cannot take place without the adoption of the A-O-S zone.
Because the A-O-S zone legislation (CB-75-2006) was not introduced to
the County Council by October 10, 2006, it cannot be introduced now until
January 2007.
Over 50 people signed up to speak. Most of the speakers were in opposition
to the bill. There were some speakers in favor of the bill provided that
CB-75-2006 be amended to include more permitted as-of-right uses that are
compatible with farming. Speakers also said that proposed rules governing
the intra-family transfer of property were too limiting. The bill proposes
to allow a minimum of 12.5 acres per single-family dwelling unit for an
intra-family transfer.
The public record closed Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. The SMA will be transmitted to the County Council in January 2007.
3. Streetlight Outages
Streetlight outages can now be reported from the City's website. A link
from the main page will take residents to an electronic form which will
ask for the resident's name, email or phone number, and the location
and pole number of the problem streetlight. Outages can also be reported
by calling 301-809-2332 or sending an email to jtayman@cityofbowie.org.
This simple enhancement makes it more convenient to report outages and provides the City with the necessary information
to get the lights repaired as quickly as possible.
