The Department of Public Works is comprised of several divisions:

Solid Waste and Recycling
Streets
Waste Water Treatment Plant
Water Plant
Utilities (water service, waste water service, and storm drains)
Administration

Vehicle and equipment maintenance
Public Improvement Permits

The water and waste water plants serve approximately 25,000 Bowie residents; with Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission serving the remaining residents. The Public Works department is also responsible for the approval, issuance and inspection of all public improvement permits for new construction as well as in the existing sections of the City.


Administration

This office is the hub of all Public Works services rendered to the City and its residents. This office oversees the collection of solid waste, recycling, equipment maintenance, streets, utilities, water filtration, wastewater treatment, storm drainage, capital project management and all related services for these divisions. Public Works administration personnel are also responsible for permitting and inspection of all public improvements within the City.
