Refuse & Recycling
Refuse
Refuse (garbage) is collected twice weekly within the city limits as per the refuse and recycling schedule.

Refuse includes :
  • Desks - wood
  • Furniture (regardless of size)
  • Household trash and garbage
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Paint cans (empty or dried out paint only)
  • Rugs and carpets (cut into 4 feet lengths, tied or taped in rolls)
  • Sliding glass doors w/glass
  • Windows
  • Wood tables
  • Firewood 
  • Chain link fence, chicken wire
  • Scrap wood and branches larger than 3 inches in diameter (must be no longer that 4 feet and be tied securely or placed in boxes or cans)

The following items are not permitted and will not be picked up with regular trash:
 
  • Bags and containers over 50 lbs.
  • Car parts
  • Commercial products
  • Concrete & bricks
  • Dirt
  • Hazardous waste
  • Liquid paint
  • Mulch
  • Rocks
  • Sod
  • Stumps larger than 6 inches in diameter
  • Tires (requires a special pick-up)

To dispose of the items above that the City does not take, you may call Prince George's County Brown Station Landfill at 301-952-7630 for information on how to dispose of these items at their facility. 

All refuse should be placed in containers and/or bagged or boxed. Refuse must be placed at the curb for collection no later than 7 a.m. the morning of collection but no earlier than 5 p.m. the evening prior to collection.

Recycling
The city collects recycling at curbside once weekly. Glass, metal, plastics, and paper go in blue recycling bins or carts and are picked up on your scheduled day. All recycling must be at the curb by 7 a.m. View a list of items that can be recycled.
