The recycling chart is a handy reminder of what can and cannot be recycled.

  • Recycling is collected once weekly.
  • All items for recycling can go in a single container - there is no longer a need to sort recycling.
  • Place recycling container at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled recycling day.

Recycling Containers
The City has completed distribution of the large, wheeled recycling carts to all sections of the City. You may continue to use the small blue bins if needed or you may use any container marked "Recycle". The wheeled carts cannot be used for trash. Contact Public Works at 301-809-2344, with any questions.

Recycling Makes a Difference
In 2012, City residents recycled a total of 9,822 tons.  This resulted in over $550,032 of savings in landfill costs, while also helping our environment.

Now that distribution of the large recycling carts is completed, we expect to see significant increases in tonnage as residents continue to take advantage of the new, larger recycling carts.

Yearly recycling tonnage will be posted here each year so residents can see the results of their efforts.

Yard Waste
Yard waste is collected throughout the City every Wednesday and must be at the curb by 7 a.m. Branches must be no larger than 3 inches in diameter or longer than 4 feet and must be tied securely or placed in a container or paper bag. Thicker branches are regular trash.

Yard waste must be placed in containers or put out in large heavy duty paper bags. These bags may be purchased at Lowes, Home Depot, and other local stores.

Effective January 1, 2014, no yard waste may be put in plastic bags.
