The City of Bowie has a rental licensing program for single family and multifamily rental dwellings. The owner of every rental property is required to obtain and maintain a rental license. No license is required when at least one of the property owners resides at the property address. 

Rental License Fees
The annual rental license fee is:

• $100 for a single family dwelling
• $50   for a multifamily-apartment dwelling

Issuing a Rental License
Upon receipt of a Rental License Application and the associated rental license fee, a "Temporary Certificate" will be issued and an inspection date scheduled. If the property complies with the Bowie City Code, the rental license will be issued.

Property owners in violation will be allowed up to 60 days to make the required repairs and pass a second inspection. A rental license will not be issued to a non-conforming property.

Inspections
Annual rental inspections are conducted to ensure compliance with the Bowie City Code. Inspections are scheduled Monday thru Friday, 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Property owners and tenants are provided with a report of any violations noted and the owner is afforded an opportunity to correct them. A reinspection will be conducted for compliance with the listed violations. A $50 fee may be charged for additional inspections. Failure to comply with the City Code may result in the issuance of civil fines, revocation of the rental license and court ordered abatements and injunctions.
