Subject: Community Informational Meeting
Old Town Bowie-Bowie State University Hiker-Biker Trail Connection
The public is invited to attend a Community Informational Meeting regarding
a proposed hiker-biker trail connection between Zug Road in Old Town
Bowie and Bowie State University. Staff from the City’s Department
of Planning and Economic Development and members of the firm of Toole
Design Group, a consultant working with the City, will conduct the
meeting.
The proposed trail, also known as the Railroad Avenue Hiker-Biker Trail, will help to create a safe, walkable community, provide travel mode choice options to residents of the area and maximize the land use/transportation relationship between a priority revitalization area (Old Town Bowie), a major university (Bowie State University), and a large, planned mixed-use development and adjacent MARC commuter rail station.
The relevant recommendations of the Bowie and Vicinity Master Plan and the City of Bowie’s Walkable Communities Program, as well as the findings of a recently completed feasibility study, will be presented, and comments from the public about this concept will be received.
The community meeting will be held at the Wiseman Student Center, Room 107, on the campus of Bowie State University on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Interested residents are encouraged to attend and participate. Free parking is available in Lot J off of Jericho Park Road. Upon request, sign language and/or other accommodations will be provided for those individuals with disabilities.
