40th Annual Bowie Heritage Day

Join the City of Bowie Museums in a celebration of Maryland History! Bowie’s 40th Annual Heritage Day will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2008 from Noon – 4:00 p.m. at the Belair Stable Museum, 2835 Belair Drive, in Bowie.

Stable visitors will enjoy free pony rides, a take home craft for kids and lots of “horse history” at the Belair Stable Museum. Bowie’s own “Kidsinger Jim” Hossick will entertain with songs and stories. Explore Belair’s outstanding Triple Crown legacy -- Belair Thoroughbreds Gallant Fox (1930) and his son, Omaha (1935) remain the only father/son Triple Crown Winners in history. The 1923 Stablemaster’s apartment offers a glimpse of life on the farm in days gone by. Try your hand at churning butter in a 1920’s “Dazey churn.”

All other City Museums – The Belair Mansion (12207 Tulip Grove Dr.), The Radio and Television Museum (2608 Mitchellville Rd.) and the Bowie Train Station and Children’s Heritage Center (8608 Chestnut Ave., Old Bowie) are open for regular visiting hours on Heritage Day.

Heritage Day is free and fun for all ages. For further information, call 301-809-3089 or email: museumevents@cityofbowie.org
