Bowie Police Department Sponsors Local Poster Contest For 5th Graders
in Conjunction with National Missing Children Effort
Theme: Bring Our Missing Children Home
Bowie, Maryland – February 20, 2008. In schools throughout the Bowie, fifth grade students will be invited to participate in the Bowie Police Department’s first annual Missing Children’s Poster Contest which focuses on the theme: Bring Our Missing Children Home. The purpose of the contest is to draw attention to the national effort to bring missing children home safely and to initiate conversations with students about their personal safety.
Similar contests are being held around the country. The Bowie Police Department wanted to sponsor a contest within our community that would mirror the national contest. “We’re excited to give our students an opportunity to compete in an art contest of such importance, especially as it gives the Bowie Police Department a chance to teach them more about their safety,” said Chief Katherine A. Perez, “and, we know that there is great talent in our community and we look forward to challenging young people to engage their parents in discussions about keeping safe.”
Everyone who enters the contest will receive a free ticket to the Bowie Baysox game on May 25th. The winning entrant will receive a $75 gift card and will be invited to throw out the first pitch at the May 25th Bowie Baysox game. The second place winner will receive a $50 gift card and the third place winner will receive a $25 gift card. Gift cards are courtesy of Target.
The winning poster will be displayed at the Bowie Police Department.
