We Have Moved!

Bowie City Hall
15901 Excalibur Road
Bowie, MD 20716

On April 19, 2011, the headquarters for the City of Bowie government moved to a new location near Bowie Town Center.

The City of Bowie was incorporated in April 1916.  Exactly 95 years later, the City government will begin a new chapter in its history by commencing operations at its new building, located at 15901 Excalibur Road.

In designing the building, architects Melanie Hennigan and others from the firm of Grimm + Parker aimed for a building that would represent the community spirit of Bowie and would complement what was already in place nearby.   The result is a three-level building that liberally uses stone and glass to convey a sense of openness, but also continuity and tradition.

The three-level building will house the Bowie Police Department and most administrative offices of the City government.  It will also include a larger City Council Chambers and conference rooms for public and government use. The main level will be visually appealing with a sundial in front of the building and an attractive lobby that will also provide easy access to the services most needed by City residents. These include Animal Control, Code Compliance, and Recreation windows in the lobby. The Finance Department window where water and other payments will be accepted is just a short walk from the lobby.

Visitors to the building will be expected to check in and show identification.

The Bowie Police Department, with its current force of almost 50 officers, will be located on the lowest level of the building and will have its own entrance and parking lot for employees and visitors. This will be a vast improvement over the trailers the Department currently occupies behind City Hall. Visitors to the Police Department can park in the lower right lot to conduct business.

This new building was constructed to LEED silver energy efficiency standards. For the first time in Bowie’s history the government will be run out a facility constructed for that purpose.  Choose the link to the left to learn more about the history of Bowie City Hall.
