Belair on the Civil War Homefront
On August 13, 2005, from 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., the Belair Mansion, recently
included in the Maryland Civil War Trails program, will once again echo
with sounds and sights from Civil War Days.
Members of the Atlantic Guard Soldiers Aid Society, a civilian re-enactment
group founded in 1995, will replicate the domestic activities of the Ogle
household at Belair as they fill the house with activities. Children are
invited to play
Civil War era games in the back yard, and all visitors can enjoy the aromas
wafting from the open fire cooking demonstration. Society members will
be happy to discuss the news of the 1860’s day, explain civilian roles
during
the War
between the States, and offer a glimpse of the impact of the Civil War
on life in this area.
The event is free; no reservations are required. For further information,
please call 301-809-3089 or email: museumevents@cityofbowie.org
Belair Mansion is located at 12207 Tulip Grove Drive in Bowie, just south
of the intersection of Md. Rts. 450 and 197, Exit 11 N from US 50 E/W.
