The work of artist Mary Kokoski will be exhibited during the month of October,
in the City Hall Art Gallery. She works in oils, pastels and other media,
but prefers to work in acrylics, because “of their brilliant hue and flexibility.”
Mary is a Maryland native who finds nature and artwork to be fascinating.
She is primarily self taught, but has taken courses in studio drawing,
oil painting and composition at George Washington University and the Smithsonian
Institution.
Ms. Kokoski is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters and the Maryland Federation of Art. She is represented by the Chesapeake Gallery, in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
Mary is inspired by indoor paintings of the Impressionists, the Hudson River School and the Luminists. She enjoys landscapes outdoors, and says her landscape paintings begin “en plein air.” “The quality of light, atmosphere and season are essential elements of her landscapes, and she strives to capture the soul of the place.”
The City of Bowie Arts Committee is pleased to provide local artists with an opportunity to display and sell their artwork in the City Hall Art Galleries. The Galleries are located at Bowie City Hall, 2614 Kenhill Drive, Bowie, Maryland and are open weekdays from 8:30 AM –10 PM and on Saturdays, from 9 AM to 5 PM. If you are an artist who lives in the City, in a community with a Bowie zip code, or are a member of a Bowie based Art Group and would like information about showing your work in our galleries, please contact Leni Stern at 301-809-3068 or lstern@cityofbowie.org.
