Code Compliance officers survey the City to determine compliance with the City Code. The goal of the office is to encourage cooperation from residents and property owners to maintain Bowie's high standards.
The City of Bowie employs five full-time Code Compliance officers and two Rental Housing Inspectors who enforce property standards adopted by the City Council in the City Code. They conduct curbside surveys in neighborhoods, inspect licensed rental properties and respond to complaints. The officers issue correction notices, work with residents to gain compliance, and write municipal infractions when violations persist.
The Code Compliance Brochure describes some of the most common issues the officers encounter. Please refer to the City Code, particularly Chapter 5 (Building and Property Maintenance), for more information.
