Education

Traffic Safety Education

Education involves making sure that drivers know the speed limits and the traffic laws that are in effect. Recent changes in motor vehicle laws are publicized by the media and the City of Bowie.

One of the educational components is the placement of digital speed trailers on city streets. These portable devices display the speed of approaching vehicles. The trailers are placed on selected streets (weather permitting) in two separate city locations each day.

Locations are determined by citizen requests, officer observation of problem areas, and other requests. Generally, police radar assignments are made in the same locations after the speed trailers are moved. These trailers do not record information - they are strictly a tool to educate the driving public as to how fast their vehicles are traveling.

To request placement of a digital speed trailer on a particular street, please call the City Manager's Office at 301-809-3079.
