Youth Advisory Committee

Bowie Youth Advisory Committee Provides a New Perspective to City Leaders

The Bowie Youth Advisory Committee provides an opportunity for local students to learn about local government and have a voice in city affairs. The Committee consists of 9 City of Bowie students from grades 6 - 12, who have the opportunity to provide positive leadership and service, and engage the community. Each of the four Bowie districts is represented on the Youth Advisory Committee.

Two Youth Advisory Committee adult advisors work with the students and guide the Youth Advisory Committee. Advisors are appointed to one-year terms.

Both the student positions and the advisor positions are voluntary. No financial compensation is provided.

What is the Mission of the Youth Advisory Committee?

The Bowie Youth Advisory Committee has an important role in local government. All members work together to:

  • Raise issues of concern from their respective districts

What is the Time Commitment?

Members are eligible to reapply annually if they meet member eligibility requirements. In future years, the orientation will be held in August, with monthly meetings being held September through May, and an optional event/activity in June. Members must be available to participate in activities of the Committee, and may be asked to attend City Council meetings as needed.
