Annual Events
Each year the Bowie Police Department hosts a variety of events that provide an opportunity for Police Officers to connect with the community and have some fun!
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
The goal of National Night Out is to build bridges in the community by promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make city neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
Cop for a Day is a unique experience where anyone can explore some of the responsibilities local law enforcement experiences everyday. Check back here for more information or follow/like us on our social channels for updates on our next Cop for a Day event!

The Bowie Police Department is thrilled to host the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics each year. We support the incredible athletes of Special Olympics and are honored to carry the Flame of Hope through Bowie, Maryland.
The Special Olympics LETR's committed purpose is to raise awareness and funds for the athletes of Special Olympics Maryland. As such, the Torch Run is never a race, but a friendly run with a single goal in mind.
Thank you for your support!

In August 2019, the Bowie Police Department hosted the first ever Kickball for a Cause Charity Tournament. With a little help from our friends at DC Fray, the department had an incredible and fun-filled day with food, friends, and kickball in support of a worthy organization: HEROES, Inc.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, restrictions with COVID-19, and out of abundance of caution and safety for all, we did not host a kickball tournament in 2020. Stay tuned for plans for a 2021 event date!

HEROES Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to one singular goal: to honor the supreme sacrifice made by law enforcement officers and firefighters who give their lives in the line of duty while ensuring the safety of citizens in the greater Washington area.
HEROES Inc. believes that spouses and children of fallen heroes have enough urgent concerns without having to worry about financial ones. HEROES Inc. honors these fallen heroes by assisting these families in making smart decisions, protection against loss, and staying on solid financial ground. Help begins within 24 hours of the tragic loss and continuing indefinitely.
Twice a year, HEROES Inc. provides a cash gift to each dependent child under 21 years of age. This money helps the children do and have things they might not otherwise be able to enjoy.
Additionally, each child receives a check on his or her birthday as a reminder that the absent parent is remembered and honored. There is only one requirement for the child: to acknowledge the gift with a personal "thank you" letter. This is HEROES Inc.'s means of staying in touch with the families they support.
