Mosquito Control Quick Facts

  • Who sprays? The Maryland Department of Agriculture sprays for mosquitos in Bowie.
  • How do they determine if they will spray? Trappers go out days in advance to surveil and trap mosquitos. If a predetermined number of females are in the trap, spraying will take place.
  • When will my neighborhood be sprayed? If the counts indicate spraying is needed, North Bowie neighborhoods will be sprayed every three weeks on Tuesdays. Similarly if there is a need for spraying based on the number of mosquitoes in traps, neighborhoods south of US 50 will be sprayed every three weeks on Wednesdays.
  • How will I know if spraying will take place?  The City will be notified on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., if spraying will occur that week.
  • When will they NOT Spray? Spraying will not occur if counts do not warrant it. Also, when the temperature is warmer than 85 degrees, or if it is rainy or windy, spraying will not occur. The spraying will not be rescheduled that week.
  • Will there be unscheduled spraying?  If the trappers find a West Nile positive mosquito in a trap, an unscheduled spray will be necessary.
