To afford a fair, impartial hearing to employees who have been terminated, suspended, or demoted - if the employee requests such a hearing.
If an employee feels that his/her demotion, suspension, or dismissal is without cause, the employee must file a written request with the City Clerk within 15 days of the action. If, after a hearing, the Board sustains the appeal, the Board may restore the employee to employment or arrive at whatever decision the Board feels is appropriate.
The Board consists of 3 regular members and 2 alternates. According to Section 2-38 of the City Code, which created the Board, the members must be persons who are knowledgeable about personnel and employment matters. Appointment preference is given to City of Bowie residents and registered voters.
