POLICE CADET

Introductory class of work for a high school graduate or equivalent in preparation to become a Police Officer. Assigned to various locations, including City Hall, a specialty unit, or special event and required to perform technical and clerical tasks, which are relevant to police work. Will be expected to apply for the position of Police Officer by the time 22 ½ years of age is reached. 

Qualifications: 
• 17½ to 19½ years at time of hire
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• US Citizen
• Valid Maryland Driver's License
• Must pass physical agility test, written exam, background check & drug screening.
• Must meet standards set by Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC)

Salary: $13.18 per hour

COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST II

This is full-performance technician work responsible for public safety communications in an emergency communications center. Incumbents are required to use Radio, call taking, and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems along with other computer equipment to evaluate citizen requests for public safety service, dispatch appropriate emergency resources within assigned area and class capabilities, and track events to identified conclusion. 


Qualifications:


• High school diploma or GED;
• Two (2) years of responsible work experience as a Public Safety Emergency Dispatcher OR
• One (1) year experience as a Public Safety Emergency Dispatcher I plus one (1) year experience in an emergency medical services environment responding to highly stressed callers in need of public safety services and have attained and maintained all related certifications, training, and program experience stipulated by agency.


Preferred Qualifications:


• Certified Maryland State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) CN2 training course.
• Certified American Heart Association (AHA) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Basic Life Support (CPR/BLS) course for Health Care Providers.
• Completed the Practical and Academic Public Safety Dispatcher I/II training program.

Salary: $45,592.00

Charged with maintaining order, protecting life and property and upholding the laws of the State of Maryland and the ordinances of the City of Bowie. Must work independently; perform regularly assigned duties under general orders. *Applications now being accepted for a possible opening after July 1, 2018*
